The Making Of A Bit Fitter
CHANGING THE NORM
Cara takes great pride operating as an independent Bit Fitter, untied to a certain brand or exclusivity she takes each client for their individual needs as horse and rider. With no two horses or people having the same needs, being able to expand across many brands to find the right fit is essential to her practice. Proudly supported by local tack stores she is capable of fitting and ordering from over 20 different brands. Two brands she truly holds close is Sprenger and Neue Schule for their anatomical research work and proprietary metals, she always has a healthy stock of both brands for trials during fittings.
Biography:
Cara’s equestrian career began when she went on a trail ride at 5 and, like many of you, she was instantly hooked.
She took every opportunity to learn and soak up the equestrian knowledge she would need for her future endeavors by riding every horse that came her way.
Cara competed in children’s & A/O hunters and equitation from 1994 to 2005 which accumulated in many championships and qualifying for the Royal West. She will readily credit her childhood mounts including Dylan and Levantys for her success.
As a very competitive adult in the ring, Cara was a force to be reckoned with on her crowd favorite mare, Charlotte. On this spicy mare, Cara saw tremendous success at 1.30M jumpers. Before moving on to further her education, Charlotte and Cara successfully competed at HITS Thermal, taking the win in the team night class as the anchor, landing herself in the local newspaper.
As part of Cara’s whole equestrian education, she trained with Rich Fellers. During this time she was afforded the opportunity to show at some of the best international facilities in North America including Spruce Meadows, LA International Horse Show and Sacramento International Horse Show. At each of these opportunities Cara grew in knowledge and experience.
Since the beginning of her equestrian career, she has always been interested in bits, collecting as many as she could. Drawing from that interest she sought out On The Bit Inc. Certified Bit Fitter Program. She learned about oral anatomy of the horse, common material and action of the bit. Most importantly, she learned the process of bit fitting and is bringing this specialize practice to the Province of British Columbia.
Now, Cara pulls on all her equestrian knowledge and experience to run her own stable and bit fitting practice on Vancouver Island.
Cara has a deep heart that translates to her bit fitting practice as she applies the science to each and every horse she encounters. Expect caring and concern from Cara and a methodical approach to bit fitting for the betterment of your partnership with your horse.
